Project management tools are a dime a dozen and therefore need to be critically evaluated before a decision is made as to the type of project management system a company requires. A system of determining the system to use should be put into place to avoid decisions being based on non-essential factors.
Project management tools allow for two options in the broader category when it comes to selection and these are web based project management tools or Saas (Software as a Service) tools. The functional requirements of these two systems are no different from one another and the only thing that will come into play when making a decision as to which system to use would be the company’s customer requirements and the business desired outcomes. The processes and the people using the systems should be taken into consideration also.
Among the things to be considered when selecting a project management system include the system support available for the chosen system. Does the system require frequent updates and if so how simple is it to run these updates. What amount of support does the system require and can this be managed by the users or does it require external support.
The flexibility of the project management system also needs to be determined in that custom changes can be made as and when required. The system should be able to accommodate any changes in the business processes and allow for these changes to be done in a simple and manageable manner. Ease of use should also be a key consideration.
