Saas or Software as a Service is a project management solution including collaboration tools for the effective managing of the tasks. Saas or Software for Service works in a way that the vendor charges a fee per month according where you fit in their pricing matrix; this is then followed by the access to the software online where you can easily work to manage your projects. The software upgrades are also common in this feature and it is not upon the user to worry about them. Saas is referred to as the ‘on demand software’ sometimes and is supplied by the application service providers also known as the ASPs.
There are some common features in all the ‘Software as a Service’ applications. Configuration and customization in these applications is a very useful characteristic. Every customer can easily alter the parameters that can allow a change in the overall structure of the software using the configuration options.
The SAAS also offers accelerated feature delivery. Their updates are more frequent than any other software for example on weekly basis. This is possible because the provider performs the updates as the application is centrally hosted. The development testing is much faster because the application has a single configuration. The vendor of the application has full access to all the date of the customers, and the design also allowing frequent updates. The accelerated feature delivery is also supported by new methodologies like agile software development.
SAAS also has its downside. The major drawback is that it can have security issues because of being hosted outside of company’s firewall. Some private companies whose financial conditions are a secret do not agree with this feature.
Overall hosted SAAS if selected carefully and for the right project with the appropriate strategy can be an all win for the organization.
